Opening sentence
Hi, I'm Jack Tait. I'd like to tell you about an adventure I had with my mate Eddie.
This book was really interesting because it’s about real things that
happened during World War II. It tells the story of three generations of a
family, all beginning with Grandad Sandy and what he went through
during the war. One cool part is that some sections of the book are in a
comic style, so you can actually see what the author is talking about.
There are also real-life pictures of the boats Sandy worked on and maps
of where they travelled, which made the story feel even more real.
The book does switch quickly between different stories – it talks about a
grandson, his grandad, and the men in their family across three
generations. That part was a bit confusing at times, but it was still fun to
follow their journeys. The grandson, Jack, is trying to find out about his
grandfather’s past, which takes you into the stories of the war.
We think this book is best for kids aged 8 and up because it talks about
some serious things, like bombings and people losing their families.
Overall, we recommend it if you like history and adventure!
