Opening sentence
The night we became famous, we were trees in our school production of Beauty and the Beast. Yes, trees!
Lulu and her school friends are organising a disco to raise money for a local puppy shelter. However, when it turns out that all the ticket money has been stolen, they must get creative to uncover and catch the thief!

This is a very fun read, with a hugely likeable character at its heart: Lulu, the leader of the Dance Detectives, is full of excitement, enthusiasm, and curiosity. She’s the perfect narrator for this fast-paced (sometimes a little bit bonkers) story, which features a dance hall full of howling dogs, a thief with a penchant for bad puns, and a protagonist with exceptionally bad spy-skills. Seasoned Auckland author Sally Sutton’s writing buzzes with energy, and there are plenty of genuinely very funny moments that younger readers and their adults would enjoy.

This book is the third in the Dance Detective series, meaning that readers who enjoy this have plenty of other mysteries to move on to after discovering who was behind the doggy disco hoax.

This book has a conversational, fast-paced tone that would work well read aloud.
