Opening sentence
Just once I’d like to sleep in. Just once.
This story is set in two different time spans which can be a little confusing if the reader doesn’t grasp what’s happening early on. Hence I suggest for the older reader.

Phoenix is present day (I assume). He is the more troublesome of 4 siblings and sleepwalks. They have lost their mother and live with their aunt and granny. He has hallucinations or dreams of weird ravens.

Fast forward to Shelby (who lives in the future) in a closed community. They have a set number of people in their world - no more or less than 350. A fence surrounds them which needs checking daily.

The two parallel stories intermingle with the main characters confronting impending doom and destruction. They work together for a better future in both their time periods.

This story will intrigue and excite children with a passion for protecting the future of our world and those who like fantasy with a tinge of future-fiction - the intrigue of a dystopian world and the possibility that it might just happen. For some readers this will be a real page turner.

Would this book work as a read aloud? Not really as two stories intertwine

Is there a particular part of the country that it’s set in? Guessing American prairie with language used but authors are Australian and New Zealand
