Brigid Feehan
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Feehan, Brigid is a fiction writer for young adults. She was born in Wellington and moved to Ireland for a year with her family at the age of 9. She returned with her family to Wellington where she finished her school education, and some of her earliest stories were published in the Evening Post children’s page. After high school she attended university, where she studied law and took several short creative writing courses.
She is currently a solicitor and has worked variously as a cleaner, waitress, teacher aide, and editor. Brigid Feehan has also participated in the Duffy Books in Homes programme for a number of years as a ‘Role Model’ speaker.
Her first book for young adults, Stella Star (Scholastic, 2005) won the 2005 Tom Fitzgibbon Award, and it was featured in the Storylines Literature Foundation’s annual ‘Storylines Notable Books’ list for 2005. Bill Nagelkerke, in a review for Magpies, wrote, ‘Well paced yet still reflective, wise without being didactic. Stella Star offers readers a humorous and perceptive story that shows that real life, while less responsive to authorial direction, can be just as dramatic and mysterious as fiction.’ The book was also reviewed by Trevor Agnew in The Press, Christchurch as ‘An excellent character-driven story.’
Feehan’s second book, Maybe Stella (Scholastic NZ, 2007) is the sequel to Stella Star. It was reviewed in Reading Time, ‘For everyone who enjoyed Stella Star, this sequel will not disappoint… A recommended read for upper primary and older readers.’ Marion Hale reviewed the book in Magpies, ‘Maybe Stella has a gentle pace, with a warm heart and an authentic voice that will appeal to a young teenage, female audience.’
