Geoff Moon was a leading natural history author and photographer, and a trained veterinary surgeon. He has published numerous non-fiction titles about New Zealand flora and fauna, particularly birdlife. His experience in ornithology is evident in both New Zealand: Land of Birds (2002), and New Zealand Birds in Focus: A Photographer's Journey (2005). He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the veterinary profession and photography in 1994.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Moon, Geoff (1915 - 2009) was born in China and lived in England before moving to New Zealand in 1947.

A veterinary surgeon by profession, he has published dozens of non-fiction books about New Zealand's flora and fauna, and is one of the country's leading natural history authors and photographers.

In 1983 Geoff Moon won a Special Award for Photography in the New Zealand Book Awards for New Zealand's Birds (1982), text by Ronald Lockley.

New Zealand: Land of Birds (2002) captures the grandeur and vitality of many of New Zealand's birds.

New Zealand Birds in Focus: A Photographer's Journey was published by Reed Publishing in 2005. It has been nominated in the 2006 shortlist for the Montana New Zealand Book Awards.

Bird's-eye View: Through the Eyes of New Zealand Birds, written by Maria Gill and with photos by Geoff Moon and Darryl Torckler, was listed as a 2007 Storylines Notable Non-Fiction Book. Draw New Zealand Birds by Heather Arnold, illustrated by Geoff Moon and Rod Morris (Raupo Publishing), was also listed as a Storylines Notable Non-Fiction Book in 2008.
