ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stace, Glenys Anne, (1945- ) is a writer whose books draw on her interest in the conservation of New Zealand’s natural and marine environment. Her books reflect her philosophy: ‘you can’t love it if you don’t know it!’ They are written for a general audience, including children, who know very little about the marine environment, geology and palaeontology.

She has worked as a facilitator in the Stevenson Discovery Centre at Auckland War Memorial Museum for twelve years, introducing thousands of school children and families to the world of nature. She co-ordinated the Oceans Gallery at the museum and designed the information panels for the National Aquarium at Napier, projects that promote understanding of natural science and the marine environment.

Glenys is a qualified teacher of speech communication and drama and often uses poetry, drama and art in her workshops at the Museum to facilitate interest in the natural environment.

Glenys Stace's latest title is Blue New Zealand: Plants, Animals, Environments - A Visual Guide (Puffin Books, 2005). The work won an honour award in the non-fiction category at the 2006 New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children and Young Adults, in addition to being listed as a 2006 Storylines Notable Non-Fiction Book.
