Opening sentence
I always thought my parents and teachers were trying to trick me with that whole ‘honesty is the best policy’ business.
This book is the latest in a series from The World of Click. It is aimed at the ‘tween’ audience (of which I am not!) although it does bring back childhood memories of spending time with my best friend and reading the Beano comics! I also own a ‘rescue puppy’ so I could relate to that part of the book.
The girls (Beth and Chanda) are trying to make some money so that Beth can treat her mother and Chanda can buy a pet. Chanda is very jealous of her older sister's success and how popular she is with her parents. She needs to prove to her parents that she can be responsible because she wants to adopt a cat from the Animal Shelter. Their first attempt at a Lemonade Stall is not successful.
The illustrator depicts the girls' emotions and changing moods particularly well with the facial expressions used. This is shown throughout the book, more often for anger, but also happiness/sadness.
Beth’s sister Lisa comes to the rescue with a job for the girls, earning money by house/pet sitting for Ms. Langford. Of course things go wrong; things get broken and the girls have to face the consequences of their actions.
At the back of the book there is a question and answer discussion with the authors and illustrator which I thought was an excellent addition for the reader or budding authors and illustrators.
