Greedy Cat and the School Pet Show

This book is an accurate portrayal of a cat’s obstreperous personality and their refusal to submit to their human’s wishes. Katie obviously loves her pet, Greedy Cat, and wants to show him off at the school pet show, but naturally Greedy Cat does what he wants. 

It is a very simple story and predictable, but the poetic language, playing with sounds and patterns of words, will be very appealing to young children. The gentle illustrations are set in rural Aotearoa New Zealand in the past, possibly because this book was first published 40 years ago.

Children and their animals being the focus of the story. They are all drawn with detailed expressive faces, giving opportunities for a parent or teacher to discuss the story in greater depth, including the emotional reactions of the characters.
