Opening sentence
A small worm is having a very forgetful day. She can’t remember who she is. She hopes God can help her remember.
After eagerly tearing into the latest Read NZ parcel, my eyes settled on the title of this little gem—the bold title' I Am' in a cozy red hue stared back at me. I instantly thought, "Aw cute, it's a picture book of affirmations," but it turned out to be much more!

We meet Worm, who has forgotten who she is and sets out on a journey to find God for help remembering. What unfolds is an enlightening adventure of identity, connection, and friendship.

The illustrations remind me of the 'Charlie and Lola' era but through a modern lens. Pastel colours and a quirky style will keep young readers engaged, and the endpapers add a nice touch with little facts sprinkled around.

'I Am' would make for an enjoyable read-aloud book. Though the Worm is seeking God, and the title refers to a well-respected verse in the Bible, this story doesn't force a religious agenda. It gently seeds curiosity in a 'bigger/deeper' concept and encourages the importance of differences through understanding how everyone matters and connects.
