Opening sentence
Claude Monet was a French artist who loved to chase the light.
This book would be a great way to introduce Monet to younger students.
The story explains that Monet would produce paintings that 'glowed' with light and colour; how he would paint the same subject at different times of the day to catch the change in light. Older children could use this idea to take photos to capture the change in light over time or similarly try to paint the same scene capturing the changing light over the days or changing seasons. Painting in real time would help them appreciate just how quickly Monet had to work to create his masterpieces.
