Opening sentence
He knew that some of the boys had suggested breaking into the shed - but it was actually a big shipping container sitting beside the oval, and there was just no way to break into it.
I like the concept of a superhero not being someone who has supernatural powers but being someone who is really really good at something, like in this book.
I think the reading age for this book starting at 8 is great, but I really like how the maturity of the ideas and concepts are a bit higher and could be used to really push some struggling older readers into deep discussions about autism, school culture and what their superpowers are.
Containing a range of idioms, there is a strong focus on figurative language and quotes by famous people that would be great to break down and really discuss their meanings, and lead into further lessons from the examples.
A great insight into the daily struggles students who have autism cope with in our school system, this book would be great for adults to read as well as kids to help with understanding, as well as those with autism feeling seen or tamariki who have friends with autism to develop better understanding of their friends.
The book itself is very sturdy and would hold up to the rigour of a classroom situation, and the addition of the pictures add to the writing.
