Opening sentence
In a spotty blue pot on Lamington Lane, lay Lulu the Lemon asleep in the rain.
Lulu the lemon is afraid of going to school but Miss Mango encourages her to have a look. Lulu is worried about all the things she can’t do yet like reading and sport but when she hears singing, Lulu knows a place she feels right at home.

This fun filled book full of alliteration and rhyme is part of a series called the Fruit Salad series. The delightfully engaging pictures with their bulging eyes and exaggerated facial expressions are sure to engage a younger audience. If that doesn’t capture the readers’ attention then the catchy rhyming pattern of the text is sure to.

The text also imparts a wonderful message of self-confidence, having a go and being happy with who you are. At the end of the story the author has included some discussion points about mental health and a link to a mental health website.

I recommend this book as a delightful read aloud to 3 – 6 year olds.
