Trevor lived in Aotearoa New Zealand
This picture book is based on the true story of Trevor, a mallard duck that gets caught up in a storm in New Zealand and ends up on the island of Niue; a journey of about 2,800 kms.

Trevor is a curious creature, always exploring the unknown and it is this trait which sees it swept off coastal rocks and blown out to sea. After an exhausting journey, Trevor washes up on a beach and it’s evident by the coconut trees, that Trevor is no longer in Aotearoa, but on a Pacific island.

Fortunately, the local wildlife and people are very welcoming and go out of their way to ensure Trevor has what he needs. Trevor is proud to be the only duck and lives out his life in Niue.

Finn introduces the reader to some basic Niuean words, and the geography of the island is featured through the beautiful illustrations.

Themes of friendship are shown through the support of gannets on the long journey, and Veka, the welcoming bird on Niue.
