Mark Laurent
Mark Laurent is a writer, poet, and musician and he has worked as a recording producer since the 1970s. Laurent’s self-published collections of poetry, released with the aid of creative grants, include Perhaps (1995), and Throw Away the Stones (2004), and Snapshot of a Soul in Transit (2010). He has also written numerous articles and reviews for magazines. Rufus and the Rain, Laurent’s first picture book, was published in New Zealand and Australia by Scholastic NZ (2008).

Laurent, Mark ( - ) is a writer, poet, and musician. He has worked as a recording producer since the 1970s. He self-published his first collection of poetry, Perhaps (1995), which was followed by Throw Away the Stones (2004), and Snapshot Of A Soul In Transit (2010). These collections were released with the support of creative grants.
Mark Laurent has written numerous articles for magazines including Reality, Rise Up, NZ Musician, Daystar, TEAR talk, Arts Dialogue, Refresh and others. He has also written CD and book reviews for NZ Musician and NZ Catholic magazines.
Rufus and the Rain is Mark Laurent’s first children's story, and is illustrated by Chris Liddiard. The book was published in New Zealand and Australia in 2008 by Scholastic NZ. One review said, ‘Timeless and beautifully done. Recommended.’(Reading Time, Vol 53, No 2) Ellen Carter wrote in Magpies, Vol 34, March 2009, ‘There is a quiet appeal in the narrative and the story could be useful to introduce very young children to the variability of weather.’
Snapshot of a Soul in Transit was endorsed by Joy Cowley, remarking that Laurent's, 'imagery is many things: beauty, strength, power, laughter, silence. I love this collection.'

WRITERS IN SCHOOLS INFORMATION
Laurent is able to speak to children of all ages as part of the Book Council’s Writers in Schools programme. He can talk about being a picture book writer and a poet. Laurent can give an introduction and talk, a reading and Q&A session, a poetry performance, a PowerPoint presentation, a gifted and talented talk and a specialty song writing workshop. He would prefer to speak to 10-40 students per session. Laurent is able to travel outside of his region for school visits.
