ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Olsson, Linda (1948 – ) was born and educated in Sweden, later completing an Honours degree at Auckland University. She has worked in banking and finance, and now runs her own consultancy business.
Let Me Sing You Gentle Songs was published in 2003 to critical acclaim. It is the first time Penguin has published a best-selling first novel. Following a young woman who strikes up an unlikely friendship with her elderly neighbour, the novel slowly reveals their personal stories of grief and loss. Sonata for Miriam (The consequence of silence) (Penguin, 2009) is Olsson's second novel, published in Sweden, Holland, NZ, Australia, USA, and several other countries around the world. Olsson completed a successful promotion tour in the USA in 2009. Reviewed in The Australian, it was described as a 'skilfully balanced book, a work of considerable literary merit and musical integrity.' (Alan Gold, 20/12/08). Sonata for Miriam is a heartbreaking tale of a man's search for his past, about the exposure of secrets that have been hidden for too long, and about the importance of talking about the most vital and the most painful in life. But more than anything it is a novel about love.
