ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Pignéguy, Dee ( - ) is a writer and gardener, and she has worked as a primary school teacher, and owned and operated a vessel called Te Aroha conducting Rare and Endangered Species Cruises in the Hauraki Gulf.

She published Saltwater in her Hair: Stories of NZ Women at Sea (VIP Publications Ltd, 2000), a collection of personal stories that celebrates women who have established successful careers in the New Zealand Maritime Industry, while also dealing with the obstacles and hurdles that they face.

Boating Fun followed in 2004 (Reed Publishing), and it was a Notable NZ Children’s Book in 2005. Dorothy Vinicombe, ‘In Short’ NZ Herald, writes, ‘Husband and wife team Mike and Dee Pigneguy have produced a wonderful guide to boating for the whole family...’

Feed Me Right (Papawai Press, 2007) saw Parenting Magazine comment, ‘If you want your kids to understand the food pyramid, the lifecycle, about facts and carbohydrates, sucrose, bacteria, PH levels, antioxidants, processed foods, vegetables, genes, digestion process – it’s all in this book!’

Boating for All was released in 2007 by Reed. Lorraine Orman for Magpies reviewed the book, ‘This well-designed and attractive book follows on from the authors’ Boating Fun, taking sailors who have mastered basic sailing skills to the next level. This would make an excellent present for an enthusiastic boatie aged about 10-14 (and any oldie who has just obtained his first boat), and it’s a good buy…for public and intermediate and secondary school libraries.’

In 2008 she published Growing Gardeners (Papawai Press), followed by Nature's Techno Tricks in 2009 (Papawai Press), which delved into the science of biomimetics – discovering nature’s best designs and how they have inspired scientists and engineers. Gardening for Planet Earth, was released in 2009 (Papawai Press) and looks at how sustainable living starts in your backyard.

Science Mimicking Nature (Papawai Press) was listed as a 2010 Storylines Notable Non-Fiction Book.

Dee Pignéguy writes regularly for Organic NZ magazine.

Grow Me Well is written by Dee and Tamarin Pignéguy and was published by Papawai Press Books in 2014.

Exploring Nature’s Pattern Magic was selected as one of the 50 Best Books, by the NZ Listener for 2015.
