Opening sentence
Our forests are a sight to be seen, by daytime's warm clear light.
This text is part of the My Nature Stories series. It uses rhyming clues to encourage the readers to guess which of New Zealand's nocturnal animals they refer to. The beautiful illustrations add to the mystery and provide clues about each animal's habitat. The text would be a great support as a writing prompt, asking the children to write a description of an animal and its environment. The added challenge of using rhyme and rhythm would make the task suitable for all year levels.
