Five wee pūteketeke went swimming one day over the roto and far away...
Featuring the Aotearoa Bird of the Century - the Pūteketeke - this story is based on the popular nursery rhyme 'Five Little Ducks'. However, this book includes heaps of cool little facts about the pūteketeke (the adults eat their own feathers to help them digest fish!).

Pūteketeke a threatened species of native bird found in high country lakes in the South Island of NZ. Before this competition, many people had not heard of this bird. Bright, colourful illustrations help to convey the story, which would work fantastically as a read aloud in a junior classroom (a fun song for the kids!). It's also a great message about conservation, pests and protecting our native species.
