Opening sentence
I have a terrifying superpower. I, Insyirah Abdullah, can see jinn.
This book transports you to a different world and introduces you to the folklore of Malaysia. Is a great way to learn some myths and legends from another culture and would instigate great conversation or research into the myths and legends of different places and people. The book also covers some common practices in the Muslim faith, helping those reading the book to understand these practices better.

Many in the target age bracket will identify with the main character, who shares many of the same issues, she just has supernatural powers as well! I really liked the inner monologue, I think it is something most if not all tween/early teens will see in themselves. The writer uses this inner monologue to show Insyirah’s battles with the inner turmoil of making choices, dealing with generational trauma, friendships and how people really just want to fit in. The writing is very descriptive without being over the top, and has a interesting range of descriptive language to add to your vocabulary

A glossary of the Malay words used in the book would have been a great touch to ensure the reader understands the meanings and is able to pronounce them correctly.
