Tino aroha rawa atu ngā mokopuna porohīanga ki a Nani Jo.
He pukapuka a 'Nani Jo me ngā Mokopuna Porohīanga' e pā ana ki te māuiuitanga o Nani Jo. Nā āna mokopuna porohīanga te pakiwaitara e i whakataki. Ka ngenge haere a Nani Jo, ā, ka ngāhorohoro ōna makawe. Ka whakataki a Nani Jo i te pūrākau o te waka o Taramainuku me Matariki. Hei te mutunga, ka eke a Nani Jo i te waka o Taramainuku.

Nā Margaret Tolland ngā pikitia hei tautoko i te kōrero. He rerehua ngā whakaahua o te waka o Taramainuku. Mā ngā pikitia ka whakawhānui i te horopaki o te pukapuka. He tino āwhina ngā pikitia ki ngā kaipānui e ako tonu ana i te reo Māori.

Ka whakanuia te hononga o te kuia me āna mokopuna e tēnei pukapuka. He pukapuka whakahirahira tēnei hei whakarite i te tamaiti mō te ngarotanga o tētahi pakeke whakahirahira. Ahakoa tērā, ehara tēnei i te pukapuka matapōuri. He pakiwaitara ngākau aroha, ā, ka maioha ngā whānau i a rātou e pānui ana. Pānuitia!

'Nani Jo me ngā Mokopuna Porohīanga' tells the story of Nani Jo’s sickness through the eyes of her "wild" mokopuna. Nani Jo becomes sick and begins losing her hair. She becomes tired. Nani Jo tells the story of Taramainuku’s waka and Matariki. By the end of the story, Nani Jo has joined Taramainuku on his waka.

The story is supported by Margaret Tolland’s illustrations. The illustrations of the waka Taramainuku are beautiful. The illustrations add layers to the story. For those of us who are still building our vocabulary in te reo Māori, the pictures are really helpful.

This book celebrates the special relationship between grandmothers and their grandchildren. This is also an important book to help tamariki to prepare for the loss of a significant adult. Despite this, this isn’t a depressing book. This story is told with aroha and will be appreciated by many whānau. Highly recommended!
