Opening sentence
Despite what you might have heard, the night was not actually made for monsters.
'The Night Hunt' - Gods or monsters? Alexandra Christo’s enticing fantasy mystery incorporates aspects of Greek mythology, where “nice” characters have dark sides and nothing is quite what it seems. Heroes are subverted to monsters - or are they? Stereotypes are upended. 'The Night Hunt' is an emotional roller coaster where good versus evil and injustice triggers a quest with a new tribe who replace lost family members.

Love lends to the drama of 'The Night Hunt' and contrasts with violent acts committed by vampires, gods and monsters. Violence and death occur in the first pages where main character Atia feeds on fear and her only friend Sapphir (a vampire) feeds on the blood of a new victim. Atia leaves quickly after feeding on fear to avoid the bloody death.

Trust threads its way through the narrative. Is Atia’s moral code and instinct enough compass to guide her on a quest? Are instincts enough to confirm her new tribe/family are trustworthy? Atia realises she loves Silas, but can she truly trust him to keep to his side of the bargain in destroying the gods? The answers to these questions and more are revealed through a series of tests Atia must complete.

A detailed hand-drawn location map allows the reader to follow Atia’s tribe on their quest.

Christo offers a plausible narrative on the consequences of gods behaving badly. 'The Night Hunt' is definitely a refreshing and entertaining read for teens who like a twist.
