Opening sentence
The sun was high in the sky when Mark finally woke up on Saturday morning.
This pick-a-path story, set over two days, is about two friends who decide to go on a weekend tramp in the Tarawera Ranges. Unfortunately, each boy makes some mistakes while preparing for the trip and some of their actions on the tramp have negative consequences.

Despite the writing being a little clunky, the value of the pick-a-path format is that the reader has to think about the hazards involved in such a trip and make decisions as they choose a particular path to follow. They quickly find out the wisdom of each decision, because every decision has a consequence.

This would be a useful book for reluctant teen readers and older primary students. Reading it would be good preparation before a class trip into the bush and useful for students studying the Level 1 Health standard about decision-making and risk management.
