Opening sentence
It was Friday! And Fridays were Sugar Plum Cafe days.
Mabel is upset when Miss Plum retires and Lionel takes over her favourite Sugar Plum Cafe. Everything was different and Mabel doesn't like change.
This book would be great to share with children about to experience change or to try something new. At the back of the book, there is a recipe for Welcome Cookies which would be a great activity to do at the beginning of a school year, with the children decorating the cookies for each other.
On Kaye Baillie's website, there are teacher notes available with comprehensive notes of teaching points and follow-up activities.
This book would work well as a read-aloud.
