Opening sentence
Once there was a boy... and together with his two friends... he would often play hide and seek.
Full disclosure - I am a huge Oliver Jeffers fan! I was super excited to read about the boy, a star, a Martian, and a penguin again after 20 years.
In the story, the characters play games together but they keep going wrong. Hide-and-seek is their favourite, with the boy doing the seeking as the others cannot count. Unfortunately, the penguin always tends to hide in the same place and the star isn't much good at hiding. When the penguin gets stuck between some rocks, the boy needs to find and rescue him.
Jeffers gives us another amazing story with all the right feelings at the right time. The book teaches us about love and letting go. The watercolour illustrations with their changes of colour to heighten the emotional and location changes are stunning. The sequel to How to Catch a Star does not disappoint!
