Opening sentence
One day a Red Hen found a green seed. Ko e taha aho ne moua he Moa Fifine Kula e tega akau lanu laukoa.
This reimagining of The Little Red Hen offers a refreshing perspective on the classic fable. Unlike the original, which is intent on punishing the unhelpful friends, this version introduces a 'little red chick' who plays a vital role in mediating between them. This clever addition engages young readers and makes the story more relatable. It's a gentler and more compassionate take, while still imparting important lessons.

The little chick expresses his dissatisfaction with his mother’s behavior, and to our delight, she listens and adjusts her actions. This highlights the power of kindness and the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs, even when it means challenging those we love.

Interestingly, the title, Out of the Egg, doesn’t reference The Little Red Hen or its traditional storyline; instead, it centres on the chick’s significance.

The illustrations are strikingly minimalist, featuring only the Little Red Hen, the seed that grows into a tree, and the little chick, which emphasises the key elements of the story.

Additionally, this book is bilingual, available in English and Tongan, with versions in English/Samoan, English/Niuean, and English/Maori as well.

I highly recommend this book!
