'Te Rā Kura ki Aotearoa' describes Jamie’s first day at kura. Jamie and his Koro arrive at school and by reading the story we learn about the routines of school. Jamie hangs up his bag and meets his Kaiako. The class waiata, read, write and count, they play outside, listen to a story and do art before cleaning up the classroom and returning home. Jamie has a great first day and learns that going to school is fun.

The illustrations and story have been produced by Donovan Bixley. The translation is by Darryn Joseph. I really liked the speech bubbles which share each child’s thoughts and experiences.

I read this story to my four year old who is very excited about going to school next year. He was really interested in all of the illustrations and what happens at school. This book is a really good resource to help prepare tamariki for making the transition from kohanga or preschool to kura.
