Opening sentence
Hello. I'm Frank.
Frank and Bert love going on picnics, and they love food. This is a delightful tale of two best friends who enjoy doing things together, but somehow something always goes wrong. However, this time, everything goes right... until Frank wants to open the box and see what the treat is prepared by Bert.
The situation that develops is one many young children will be able to identify with and the dilemma faced by Frank is also common. As the story continues the characters interactions and responses to each other are positive examples of how to solve problems.
This is a book to read aloud and just simply enjoy with younger children, or it could be used to springboard a discussion on friendship and the importance of being truthful and honest, even if you think you might get into trouble.
As the story progresses, we get an insight into the personalities and characteristics of the two main characters. It could be used to support older children to really think about personality traits of the characters and to compare and contrast.
The illustrations are simple and colourful and support the text beautifully.
