Opening sentence
"See?" Mum said softly, stepping back, her eyes overflowing with tears. "He always comes home."
Winner of the Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award, 'Koro's Star' is a heart-warming adventure story with family and heritage firmly at its heart. Set during the summer holidays of 1967, Atama's father is deployed to Vietnam after moving the family to a new army base and Atama must learn what it means to be the man of the house (and make friends) in an unfamiliar town. He is not left alone, however. Armed with his Koro's war medal and hampered by his little sister, Atama begins to navigate a world of bullies, trials and midnight adventures that lead him to reconnect with his ancestors and find a new strength of his own. Atama must ultimately face his fears and, as he does so, helps us all to explore the depths of courage and family bonds. A great read for 8-12 year olds and a great storiy for families to enjoy together.

Content Advisory: A little spooky in places but the beauty of it overpowers the supernatural.
