Opening sentence
One clear afternoon, Abigail thought of a big question.
This book is a comforting fusion of science and mythology. Without fudging the science, Abigail’s father explains to his daughter how the Moon was created, through a story about Mother Earth and the violent creation of her Moon child. I particularly liked that this story of maternal love is told by a father to his child.
The full-page illustrations are dramatic and visually engaging and enhance understanding of scientific concepts, such as how water and minerals originated on our planet. This would be a very useful book to introduce a topic on planets in the junior school and a lovely book to share with a curious pre-schooler.
