Opening sentence
Mama didn't want to get chickens. 'They are noisy and they poop everywhere. I don't even like eggs,' she said.
I can relate to this book in a couple of ways... I had a duck once. It followed me around and pooped everywhere!

My mother-in-law suffered from dementia – and she owned chickens... It was sad seeing her deteriorate.

The children and the chickens are intertwined in this moving story of a mother losing her memory. The chickens didn't discriminate, the children didn't understand. She loved them all anyway – and they loved her.

Heart-warming illustrations depict a fun-loving, family life in a country setting. Then things turn sad.

The language used by the author ensures it would be easily understood by the audience this book is intended for.

This book would certainly be a useful resource for any young children experiencing the devastation of a parent or grandparent suffering from early-onset dementia.
