Opening sentence
What is it that makes YOU want to read a book?
This book has a similar theme to another book: The Book No One Wants To Read by Beth Bacon. The book by Beth Bacon is a quick read and perfect for a reluctant reader but this book has a more involved plot, and is definitely an interesting, funny read.
The story is told in the first person, the book itself, and dialogues with the reader in conversational style. The book feels neglected and alone, confined to the dusty shelves in a library, always passed by and ignored, hoping one day it’ll be chosen by the right reader.
This book has many humorous moments e.g. on page 53 the reader says, ‘That’s ridiculous!’ ‘You’re the one talking to a book,’ retorts the book.
Librarians will appreciate the tips on looking after books with the book explaining how bent over pages hurt and its spine needs care.
Tor Freeman’s illustrations have a limited colour palette and are in cartoon style, adding quirky humour to the book.
The book concludes with the question: ‘What is the point of this book?’; and a challenge to the reader to write a book but make it fun.
